Before the arrival of the English colonialists in India, the people of the subcontinent were guided through the only madrasa education in the entire subcontinent. But after the British rule was established in this country, they closed the madrasahs, the heart of Islamic education, and started a conspiracy to rob the Muslim people of their faith and belief through western-style education. From the results of this educational system introduced by them, the world-famous Islamic Vidyapith was established in Deoband, a remote area of Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, India in 1866 with the firm conviction of the proper preservation of the faith-belief, education-culture and civilization of the simple-minded Muslims of the subcontinent and the proper preservation of the complete Islamic education system based on the Qur'an and Sunnah. Due to the sincerity and sacrifice of the founders, within a very short period of time, the knowledge of Quran-Hadith was spread beyond the boundaries of the subcontinent and its fame spread to the outside world. Today, Darul Uloom Deoband has given birth to thousands of great men for almost one and a half hundred years. Those who have done and are giving religious service by building numerous religious institutions in different parts of the world. The thousands of communal madrassas that exist in our country today are the symbol of the real ideals of Darul Uloom Deoband.
